How I wish it were true that people would live peacefully together, but that would require grandeur and nobleness of human spirit. I have now given up hope that it exists. Human history is replete with stories of the dark side of human nature. The warlords in Afghanistan and the tribal divisions in Iraq are powerful reminders of the whole of human history. There is nothing new in the ideas, the emotions, the ideology that drives them than there was 5000 years ago in Babylon or Assyria or Egypt.
Humans exploit. Humans kill. Humans disadvantage others. It is our nature. I used to think the problem was ignorance. Just a little education, a cogent explanation of why human respect and dignity matters would readily put to rout the violence and ignorance. It doesn't.
Maybe it is why I like the movie Forbidden Planet so much, because it abstracts these themes.
even in you, the loving father, there still exists the mindless primitive ... more enraged and more inflamed with each new frustration
Read the whole (slighted abridged) climatic dialogue here (or, better yet, rent the movie).
However, I am a fool. I always have been. I believe that humans are capable of more, are capable or beauty and joy and love and peace and prosperity. I don't know how to achieve it, but I refuse to give up, to give in. I am an idealist and I will die an idealist, even if people ridicule me.
Today's magic word: vithdn. I have no idea what it means.
I would love to add.."And there is always a reason NOT to fight." That's what I put on my virtual virtual peace globe..the one in my mind and spirit. If only people could see that reason in each one of their battles.
Happy Peace Day on Nov. 7th, AL.
Life is just so
Some look for a reason to live
Some look for a reason to die
Some will die for love
Some will die for beliefs
Some will die for loved ones
Some will die for King & Country
Some will die from deadly disease
But let us not forget to live
To love & live is something we do
whatever it is we love, and live or die for.
Peace is an 'ideal' and yet it is hate and fear are so easy to sell.
Annelisa - This is a huge peace blog now! I love your globes. They make quite the statement. I hope you are doing well tonight.
Your sunset and sunrise photographs will always be a major part of BlogBlast For Peace. A special place in my heart.
Peace and love to you,
Mimi
I'd rather have a hug and peace anyday.
Love your peace globes my friend and here's a ((HUG)) for you. x
Something For You
How ya doin sweetie?
a wonderful post...
Sometimes I fear leaving this world in a not so much different state as that through which passed while growing up. The killing and maiming of innocents, deceit, ego driven attack and destruction; weapons so dangerous that they should not be in the hands of anyone, much less governments.
Peace day seems to reinforce my fading hopes for peaceful future. The other days of the year, I am a happy camper! (I wish)
Annelisa, Annelisa are you there? I miss you. x
This is marvelous. Yes, I'd prefer a universal hug. I can't think of any reason to fight with anyone!
Those are beautiful and so true. Thanks for visiting my blog. As ever, Carver
i love your peace globe and message...i'll definitely have to check out how it all began.
