By Jupiter!!

I was watching the sun set for my Astronomy coursework, and I noticed this star (dot) in the sky(you might have to click on the picture to actually see it!):

So, remembering something my teacher said, I took a picture with my crappy digital camera, and then zoomed in on the camera, and got this:

Now, I've just confirmed with said teacher - this is actually Jupiter!!! Yay!:

Isn't amazing to see the planets we read about!

MWM was really into astronomy a few years back. It's lovely when we go on holiday abroad and sit on the beach at night with a glass of wine whilst he points out all the stars and planets to me - very romantic! :) Well done for getting such a good picture,

Hello Annelisa,

My Dad has just retired and has got into astronomy/astrology... I get muddled up with the two... He does the one that involves a telescope and stargazing, as opposed to the one where you make up fortunes based on star signs.

ANYWAY - I will tell him about this and see if he has found it too. He's not SO far away from you.

Do you know how long it'll be in your bit of sky and visible for?

You're Galileo!
APOD was all about Jupiter today and the "New Horizons" fly-by...I think that was today.
I have a College Astronomy Book that I love to pore over...
Gives me an idea for a Peace Globe.
