"Treat others as you want to be treated" - interactive

calling wayward children to a halt
"Put away destructive big boys toys!"
Chastised perpetrators of assault.
Let bully and victim now shake hands -
apologies to those who deserve -
returned pocket money save parched lands
and timely freedom from those they served.
Release the Voices from the cupboards.
Though you disagree, let them all speak.
(The tunes of many little dove-birds
in flock's evensong might reach their peak.)
See the loner playing his own game.
Alone, no support, he watches on.
Go, entreat him, and ask him his name.
Tell him he's welcome - the bully's gone.
Culture and belief varies from his,
offering others to be enriched.
Assimilated differences -
beautiful patchwork cleverly stitched.
Subtle hues - variation on skin
cultural differences a blessing
offering hero and heroine
once oppressed, release prepossessing.
Tired of hearing about wars and pain -
Say, "Stop it. Stop it all of you!" So,
Let winds of change rotate weather vane -
Take white hankie and have damn good blow!
And listen! Let it be understood.
Voice of reason won't be confounded
Time's main objective is common good.
Stand tall - statue-still - and be counted!

Recipe for a poetic meal:
Ingredients
1 Man
1 Woman
big handful words
liberal sprinkling wit
pinch silence
splash of laughter
Take the man & woman. Peeling off top toughened layer to reveal softer hearts beneath, place side by side in bed of anticipation. Break the bubble of silence by adding words gradually, taking care not to curdle. Avoid, also, over-mixing the metaphors, too many cutting remarks or mincing words (otherwise you may be required to eat them later, served up cold)…
Throw in a few witty remarks, and some laughter to taste. Meanwhile, stir the emotions and bring to a simmer. When coming to a boil, gently remove from heat, and allow to cool to the required temperature.
Dessert should be sweet and a little spicy, complementing the main course. Suggestions might be to serve a dash of sweet talk with a spoonful of honey, topped with a sizzle of spicy words, a touch of zest and a little piquant wit.
(This was something I wrote a couple of years ago, but if you want to see a really excellent poem about life in the kitchen, go to Mother of Invention's post "Kitchen" over at Spilling Out!!)
My dad once gave me some advice.
He said that, as you walk along the road, most people look only along the road in the direction they are aiming for, and miss all the beautiful scenery to the sides....
If you are going to haunt me, my friend
please don't creep up on me.
Don't hide behind innocuous thoughts
and leap out at me all unprepared,
since a little forewarning
would have me outstretching
my arms to embrace you
as once I did, and all I need
is to take a step towards you
for you to close the divide
and be there as you have ever been.
Every yesterday we spent
together and apart is relived
now, as it was then.
Every shining cloud edge
is the periphery of your world
and mine, neither in sunshine
nor in rain, but that no-man's land
is held freehold and may only linger
as long as the last breath
takes to girdle the Earth,
or for the heavens to inhale
deeply of your essence
and discover the inspiration
to be intoxicating and fresh.
Then it is time to go.
And when you do, please
endow me with a carbon copy
of your spirit, that I may feel
solace in my solitude.
Leave memories of laughter
to un-shadow the foundations
of this new rendering. Though
no longer in residence
the rosemary shall be watered
and the little blue flowers
of remembrance
will thrive on the devotion
and affection
they have always known.
So, don't ghost me, my friend.
Go haunt your own world
and search out new
special places and delights so,
in the progression of existence,
when we have the pleasure
of your company once more
they can be gifted to us
as a fine welcome
upon our arrival.
Ashes free and fused to the wind
swish between blades of grass
on the cherished chalk
littoral hills of England.
Wafts of warm air rush
whooping and cheering,
rejoicing in their return.
Dancing air gathers
the vesel's dust,
borrowed for life,
and thrusts briskly upward
to whistle through gnarled
boughs of an unyielding
copse, depositing residue
into the exposed crevices
of the trees' protective sheaths,
and melding carbon molecules
to form a new alliance.
What liberated remains fly
onwards towards the sun
and dance merrily
in the midst of life,
imparting fertile
corporeal substance
to future blossoms
on route to the sea.
And whilst the mortal
is returned to Earth
the soul continues
its journey onwards
to a more ethereal
dimension - where
the mixing of spirits
is both acceptable
and desirable.
Pink river flowing through the night
and on into the perfect dawn,
neither cleansing nor soothing
the source seared by life's
sparkle as it winked out,
nor mingling fresh deposits
with its saline composition
for all deposits have been made.
Ripples of disquiet disturb
the diaphanous shimmering
so that fraternising seems
a rare possibility between
two distinct existencies.
The fertility of earlier form
carries across the frontier
and its persistence
embellishes the brightness
with a twinkle previously
unseen in that place.
Effervescing from the deep,
pockets of truth bubble
upwards and capture
the stream's essence
before bursting through
the double-mirrored surface -
the barrier which reflects
both states, concealing
each from the other,
and confining knowledge
requisite for
inhabitants' comfort
to the parallel
and unreachable
world. But somehow
that pink salty flow -
the focus of this elegy -
carries with it enough
youthful energy to
transcend through
the reflective mirage
and telecommunicate
some of its essence
to those who have
dipped their hand.
The undulating ripples
form lucid windows
for perceptive eyes
looking for that truth.
Living each day
with
armour peeled back
to reveal
palpable emotions
sinews and flesh
are
unable to contain,
raw, exposed and
unconfined
by
conventional layers
ripped kindred spirit's
lament
forms a new shroud
almost as binding,
almost as
complete a husk
as
those hollow and dry
discards
carried aimlessly
by the wind.

Merry Christmas and great globe. Thanks for deciding to make me part of your peace. (((hugs)))
So artistically I'm a bit slow... had fun. This is very impressive though - computer and multiple borders!
Given that I've been drinking cava since 11 this morning I'm proud to be awake and typing this late.
Merry Actual Christmas!!! Hope you had a great one with your kids & you're not too cold.
Hiya Brian, always a pleasure to see you!
Topchamp- Bet you're not slow artistically... can't do Brownies, and not have an artistic bone. I like your globe! And I've seen elements of artistry over at yours... Computers are also your thing, I noticed - got right in there with all the add-ons etc...
Had a lovely Christmas. Today's a mellowing out day... so I'm off the pc today (ehm...in a minute :-D)
In the Spirit of wrapping up old business for the year, I made mention of an Artist in a comment a while back that I thought might interest you and it was no surprise to me to have my friend Barbara conjure him up from a post she did more that a year ago.
